The University of Pavia, founded in 1361, is one of Italy's oldest universities, with many bachelor's and master's programmes taught in English. International students who are admitted can apply for the EDiSU scholarship, a need-based award that can cover your tuition, a room, a daily meal and a yearly cash grant.
Two steps: First apply for admission (the first window is usually in mid-November). Then apply for the EDiSU scholarship in the summer (August or September). Start collecting your family income documents now.
What the EDiSU scholarship gives you
EDiSU Pavia is the University of Pavia's agency for student support. Its scholarship includes a tuition fee waiver, plus one of these packages (2026/27 values):
Option 1: room + meal + cash
- A free room in a university Collegio (residence)
- One free meal a day in the university canteen
- Up to €4,479 a year
Option 2: meal + cash (no room)
- One free meal a day
- Up to €7,419 a year
Students who don't meet the income limits can still apply for accommodation only.
How payment works: rooms are usually assigned in late September or October, free meals start in January, and the cash is paid once you have earned the required credits.
Who can apply
- International students of any nationality, including Nigerians
- Admitted to a bachelor's or master's degree at the University of Pavia
- You must meet the income and merit requirements
- Students from countries on Italy's list of "particularly poor countries" need a statement from the Italian embassy or consulate in their home country instead of full income documents
