Swedish Institute Pioneering Women in STEM Scholarship 2027

The Swedish Institute (SI), a Swedish government agency, offers the Pioneering Women in STEM scholarship: a fully funded master's degree in Sweden for women from ten countries, including Nigeria. It supports future female leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Two deadlines:

1. Apply to an eligible master's programme by 15 January 2027 on universityadmissions.se.
2. Then apply for the scholarship on SI's portal in February 2027 (last year: 9–25 February).

What the scholarship covers

• Full tuition fees, paid by SI directly to your Swedish university
• Living allowance: SEK 12,000 a month for the whole programme
• Travel grant: SEK 15,000 (one-time; not for students already living in Sweden)

Not included: insurance. Check what your university provides.

Who can apply

• Women who are citizens of one of these countries: Bangladesh, Indonesia, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam
• At least 3,000 hours of work experience before the SI application (from a maximum of three employers)
• Proven leadership experience, documented on SI's template forms
• Applying for an eligible English-taught STEM master's programme in Sweden in the first admission round

Eligible programmes

SI publishes a list of eligible STEM master's programmes at Swedish universities each year (last year in mid-November). Examples have included programmes at the University of Gothenburg and other Swedish universities. Check the official list before you apply.

How to apply

1. Check the list of eligible programmes on SI's website when it is published.
2. Apply to the programme(s) on universityadmissions.se by 15 January 2027, and pay the application fee.
3. Collect your proof of work experience (3,000+ hours) and leadership experience using SI's templates.
4. Apply for the scholarship on SI's application portal in February 2027.
5. Wait for results: university admission results come in late March, and SI scholarship results in late April.
