Slovak Government Scholarships 2027-28 for Developing Countries

Every year, the Government of the Slovak Republic offers scholarships to students from selected developing countries for full bachelor's, master's and PhD degrees at public universities in Slovakia.

Status: the 2026/27 call closed on 25 May 2026. The 2027/28 call is expected to open around March 2027. Use this time to prepare your documents.

What the scholarship covers

  • Free tuition at Slovak public universities, where degrees are taught in Slovak
  • A free 10-month Slovak language and preparatory course before your degree, with a €700 monthly stipend
  • A €50 monthly bonus for excellent grades

Important: classes are taught in Slovak

Degrees under this scholarship are taught in Slovak. If you haven't studied in Slovakia before, you'll first take the 10-month Slovak language course, starting in September.

Who can apply

Eligible countries (2026/27 list):

  • Africa: Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia
  • Asia & Middle East: Afghanistan, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Mongolia, Palestine, Syria, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam
  • Europe & Caucasus: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Ukraine
  • Americas: Cuba

Nigeria, Ghana and most other countries are not on the list. The list can change each year. When the next call opens, check whether your country appears in the application website's eligibility checker.

Age limits (on 1 September of the year you start):

  • Bachelor's and master's: 18 to 26
  • PhD: 23 to 35

PhD places are very few, about 3 in the last call, and only for some countries.

How to apply

  1. Wait for the 2027/28 call on the Ministry of Education page (usually March).
  2. Register on the official application website: https://www.vladnestipendia.sk/en
  3. Use the eligibility checker to confirm your country can apply.
  4. Fill in the online application before the deadline (usually late May).
  5. A committee at the Slovak Ministry of Education selects the winners.

Prepare now

  • Get your transcripts, certificates and passport ready.
  • Learn some basic Slovak, which will help in the language year.
  • Think about which Slovak public university and course you want.

  • Only public universities are allowed under this scholarship.
  • Never pay an agent. Applying through the official website is free.
