Montana State University Scholarships 2027 for International Students

Montana State University (MSU) in Bozeman, USA, offers scholarships to international students starting a bachelor's degree. The main award is automatic: you're considered when you apply for admission.
Important: These scholarships cover part of your costs. MSU estimates the total cost for international undergraduates at about $54,220 a year (2025/26), including about $31,214 in tuition. Plan how you'll pay the rest.
1. International Undergraduate Merit Scholarship
- $5,000 to $12,000 per year for first-year students
- Transfer students with a 2.5+ GPA: $7,000 in tuition aid per year
- Automatic. No separate application. You're considered when you apply for admission.
- You need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
- Renewable each year if you keep a 3.0 GPA, study full-time and remain a non-resident
- Awards are given in the order admission offers are made, so apply early
- You must receive full admission (not conditional)
2. MSU Presidential Scholarship
- Annual tuition waivers, a generous stipend and other benefits for four years
- Based on academic achievement, leadership and personal qualities
- Separate application, which also serves as your Honors College application
- Deadline: early December each year, for fall first-year entry
- Not open to students with conditional admission or 12+ college credits
Admission deadlines (international undergraduates)
- Spring semester: 15 November
- Fall semester: 1 July
- MSU recommends applying at least six months before your start date.
How to apply
- Apply to MSU as an international undergraduate (application fee: US$38 online).
- Submit your transcripts (with certified English translations if needed) and proof of English proficiency.
- For the Presidential Scholarship, submit its separate application by early December.
- Once you have full admission, the merit scholarship is offered automatically if you qualify.
