Updated 21 October 2026
Open
EU4M is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Mechatronic Engineering, run by four European universities. Students study in at least two countries and graduate with a joint MSc from the University of Oviedo (Spain) and Hochschule Karlsruhe (Germany). Many also earn a double degree from the University of Skövde.
Deadline for scholarships: 15 January 2027 (2027–2029 intake). Self-funded applicants can apply until May 2027.
The universities
- Universidad de Oviedo, Spain (coordinator), taught in Spanish
- Hochschule Karlsruhe (HKA), Germany, taught in German
- SUPMICROTECH-ENSMM, Besançon, France, taught in French
- University of Skövde (HiS), Sweden, taught in English
What the scholarship covers
- €1,400 a month for up to 24 months
- Tuition fees
- Health insurance
- Language courses and support with visas
Fee-waiver places (tuition only, no monthly allowance) are also available. Without a scholarship, tuition for non-European students is about €4,500 per semester.
Who can apply
- Students of any nationality, including Nigerians
- A bachelor's degree (180 ECTS or equivalent) in mechatronics or a related field, such as mechanical, electrical, electronic, automation, industrial, production, automotive or aerospace engineering
- A good academic record; professional experience is a plus
The language requirement (read this!)
Teaching is in the local language at each university, except Skövde (English). So English alone does not meet the requirement. When you apply you need:
- At least B1 in the teaching language of your first-year country, and
- At least A2 in the language of your second-year country
Example: Start in Skövde (English, B1) and move to Germany (German, A2) for the second year.
EU4M offers language courses to help you reach B1 in your study country, but you need the basic level before you apply.
Programme structure
- Two years, 120 ECTS
- Year 1: basic courses in automation, mechatronics and mechanical design, plus language study
- Year 2: specialisation at another partner university, then a master's thesis at a partner or an associated company
- Scholarship holders spend at least one semester in each of two countries
