21 Erasmus Mundus Scholarships Open or Opening Soon for 2027

Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) is one of China's leading universities for languages, international studies, translation, journalism and business. International students can study there for free through the **Chinese Government Scholarship (Type B)**, which BFSU offers for master's and PhD programmes.
> **Status:** BFSU hasn't published the 2027 call yet. The details below come from the official 2026 call and usually stay similar from year to year. Start preparing your documents now, and check the official website for the 2027 dates.
## What the scholarship covers
Based on the 2026 call, the scholarship includes:
- **Free tuition**
- **Free on-campus accommodation**, or a monthly housing allowance instead (RMB 700 for master's students, RMB 1,000 for PhD students)
- A **monthly living stipend** of **RMB 3,000** for master's students and **RMB 3,500** for PhD students
- **Medical insurance** in China
## Who can apply
- **Non-Chinese citizens** with a valid passport
- **Age:** under 35 for master's programmes, under 40 for PhD programmes
- **Master's applicants:** a bachelor's degree with strong grades
- **PhD applicants:** a master's degree with strong grades
- **Language:** HSK (Chinese) or IELTS (English) results, depending on whether the programme is taught in Chinese or English
- Good health, no criminal record and good conduct
## How to apply
The application has **two steps**, and both are required:
1. **Apply to BFSU** through the BFSU International Student Service System (study.bfsu.edu.cn), and email the application form to BFSU's international students office.
2. **Apply on the Chinese Government Scholarship portal** (campuschina.org) after BFSU sends you a pre-admission notice. Use BFSU's agency number **10030** and choose scholarship category **B**.
In the 2026 round, the BFSU deadline was **31 January** and the government portal closed on **28 February**. Expect similar dates for 2027, but always follow the official notice.

- Notarized degree certificate (or expected graduation certificate), with an English or Chinese translation
- Academic transcripts, with translation
- HSK or IELTS certificate
- Personal statement
- **Two recommendation letters**
- CV
- **Research proposal**
- Physical examination record
- Non-criminal record certificate (issued within the last six months)
- Signed student affirmation form
Notarized documents, police certificates and medical exams all take time, so start on them early.
## Also at BFSU: International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship
If you want to study or teach the Chinese language, BFSU also hosts the **International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship**, funded by China's Center for Language Education and Cooperation. It supports a master's or bachelor's in International Chinese Language Education, as well as one-year, one-semester and four-week language programmes. Applicants need HSK and HSKK results. Applications are made through chinese.cn.
## Tips for a strong application
- **Pick your programme first.** Check BFSU's list of programmes taught in English if you don't speak Chinese.
- **Make your research proposal specific.** Name a clear question and explain why BFSU is the right place to study it.
- **Contact a potential supervisor** for PhD applications. A supportive professor can strengthen your application.
