Is it worth it if it's unpaid?
For many young Africans, yes. An AU internship gives you experience at a major international organisation, contacts across the continent and a strong line on your CV for future jobs in diplomacy, policy and development. But plan your budget honestly. Living in Addis Ababa for three months costs money, so think about savings, family support or sponsorship from your university or employer before you apply.
Tips for a strong application
- Use the AU CV template exactly. Applications in other formats may be rejected.
- Make your motivation letter specific. Name the department you're interested in and connect it to your studies and career goals.
- Show your commitment to Africa's development through volunteering, student leadership or community projects.
