13 DAAD Master's Scholarships Open for Sub-Saharan Africans (2027)
Updated 8 October 2026
Open
DAAD scholarships don't always mean studying in Germany. Through its In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Programme, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) funds talented Sub-Saharan Africans to study for a master's degree at selected universities in Africa, either in their home country (in-country) or in another Sub-Saharan African country (in-region).
Right now, 13 master's programmes are accepting applications for the 2027 intake.
Deadline: 12 November 2026. Each programme has its own call document with its exact requirements and steps. Read the call for your programme carefully before applying.
What the scholarship covers
According to DAAD, scholarship holders receive:
- A monthly scholarship payment (stipend)
- Tuition fees
- An annual research allowance
- A possible research stay abroad, subject to funding and a successful application
Who can apply
- Citizens of Sub-Saharan African countries
- Holders of a first academic degree (bachelor's or equivalent) in a relevant field
- Women and candidates from less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged
- Each programme sets extra requirements (grades, subject background, work experience and so on). Check its call.
